Compatibility & Setup

Does Voice Typer really type into ANY Windows application?

Yes. Voice Typer operates at the native Windows input layer using the Win32 SendInput API with direct Unicode scan codes (KEYEVENTF_UNICODE). It does not rely on browser extensions or clipboard paste tricks. It types directly into Microsoft Word, Google Chrome, Slack, Discord, Visual Studio Code, WhatsApp Desktop, Notion, Telegram, Windows Terminal, Obsidian, and any active text box where you see a blinking cursor.

How is Voice Typer different from Windows 11 Dictation (Win + H)?

Windows 11 built-in dictation (Win+H) is restricted to Windows 11 only, drops your microphone after just 3 seconds of pause, forces you to speak punctuation words like 'comma' and 'period' out loud, does not support custom push-to-talk hotkeys, and frequently bugs out in code editors. Voice Typer works across both Windows 10 and 11, gives you rock-solid Hold-to-Talk or Tap-to-Talk triggers, automatic AI smart punctuation, 180+ languages, models, and zero clipboard loss.

What Windows versions and hardware are supported?

Voice Typer supports Windows 10 (version 22H2 or newer, 64-bit) and Windows 11 (64-bit). It runs smoothly on modern Intel, AMD, and ARM (via emulation) processors with minimal RAM and CPU utilization. No dedicated GPU is required.

AI Engines & Accuracy

What speech recognition engines are available in Voice Typer?

Voice Typer features an intelligent Dual-Engine Streaming Pipeline: 1) Google Chirp Pro: Cloud streaming powered by Google Cloud Speech v2 (Chirp 3) with real-time interim results, auto-punctuation, and deep acoustic modeling for complex vocabulary. 2) Standard Engine: Enhanced Google Web Speech with local Silero VAD, supporting 180+ languages (5 minutes free daily forever, unlimited on Pro).

Do I have to speak punctuation marks like 'period' or 'comma'?

No! Voice Typer uses an integrated local neural network (XLM-RoBERTa ONNX) to automatically predict punctuation, sentence breaks, capitalization, and formatting based on conversational rhythm and semantic context. You simply speak naturally, and punctuation appears automatically.

What languages and accents are supported?

Voice Typer supports over 180 languages and dialects on the Standard Engine, and 50+ languages on Google Chirp Pro. It handles regional accents with high accuracy, including US, UK, Australian, Indian, and Scottish English, Spanish, French, German, Japanese, Korean, Mandarin, Hindi, and Portuguese.

Privacy & Clipboard

Privacy & Clipboard

Will Voice Typer overwrite or clear my Windows clipboard?

Never on Pro. Standard free tier uses fast clipboard injection, whereas Voice Typer Pro converts speech directly into native Win32 Unicode keystrokes. Your copied passwords, URLs, and code snippets remain 100% untouched on your clipboard.

Is my voice audio saved, shared, or used to train AI models?

No. Estri Tech does not record, retain, or train AI models on your voice audio. All voice audio is transmitted via secure, encrypted TLS 1.3 WebSockets directly for real-time transcription and is discarded immediately after processing. We never store, log, or sell your audio data.

How do the Trigger Modes work (Hold vs Tap)?

Voice Typer supports two convenient trigger modes: 1) Push-to-Talk (Hold): Hold Ctrl + Space (or your custom hotkey) while speaking, then release to finish. Ideal for fast single-sentence replies and coding. 2) Toggle Mode (Tap): Press the hotkey once to start dictating continuously, and press again or pause to finish. Ideal for long-form essays, emails, and articles.

Can I customize the trigger hotkey?

Yes. In the Voice Typer Settings panel, you can customize your global hotkey to any preferred key combination, such as Right Ctrl, F8, Alt + Space, Caps Lock, or mouse buttons.

What are Spoken Snippets (Shorthand Replacements)?

Spoken Snippets allow you to define custom voice macros. For example, speaking 'my booking link' automatically types your full Calendly or meeting URL, or speaking 'support signature' types your complete professional sign-off.
